Business Valuation Services
A business valuation is an independent estimate of what a company is worth, built from its financial statements using the income, market and asset approaches. Most owners first learn what their company is worth from the person trying to buy it. A valuation means you walk into that conversation knowing your own floor.
Why the buyer's number is not your number
A buyer's offer reflects what the business is worth to them, after the discounts they can justify. It is an opening position, not an appraisal. Without your own analysis you have no basis to counter beyond instinct.
An independent valuation gives you the range, the method behind it, and the specific assumptions that move the number most — so you know which concessions actually cost you and which are noise.
The three approaches, and when each governs
Income approach — discounts the cash the business is expected to produce. Governs for profitable operating companies with predictable cash flow.
Market approach — applies multiples from comparable transactions. Governs when there is genuine comparable deal data in your sector.
Asset approach — values the balance sheet. Governs for asset-heavy or underperforming businesses where earnings understate what is there.
A defensible valuation runs all three and explains why the concluded value sits where it does.

Frequently asked questions
- How is a small business valued?
- Through three approaches applied together: the income approach discounts expected future cash flow, the market approach applies multiples from comparable transactions, and the asset approach values the balance sheet. The concluded value explains which approach governs and why.
- What is my business worth?
- It depends on normalized earnings, growth, risk and what comparable businesses actually sold for — not on a rule-of-thumb multiple. A valuation engagement produces a defensible range with the assumptions behind it visible.
- Is this a certified appraisal?
- No. Formal certified valuations for legal, tax or regulatory filings require a CVA or ABV designation. Ours are analytical valuations for planning, negotiation and internal decisions — which is what most owners actually need.
- How long does a business valuation take?
- Four to ten days. A startup or early-stage valuation runs 4 to 6 days; a full small-business valuation 7 to 10.
- What does a business valuation cost?
- Quoted per engagement, based on entity complexity and record condition. Inquire for a written proposal with a fixed fee and delivery date, prepared at no charge.
