Pitch Deck Financials

Pitch deck financials are the three or four slides investors interrogate hardest: unit economics, the revenue build, burn and runway, and use of funds. They must tie back to a model you can open in the meeting — because you will be asked to.

The slide that ends most meetings

It is the revenue projection. If the number was typed in and grown by a percentage, an experienced investor finds out in two questions: where does that come from? and what has to be true for it to happen?

A revenue line derived bottom-up from customers, conversion, price and retention can be argued with. One derived from a growth rate cannot be defended at all.

What you receive

  • Bottom-up revenue build from unit economics, not a growth rate
  • Unit economics slide - CAC, payback, contribution margin, retention
  • Burn and runway with the assumptions visible
  • Use of funds tied to the milestone the raise is meant to reach
  • Dilution and post-money scenarios at different raise sizes
  • The underlying model, so you can answer questions live in the meeting

Use of funds is a test, not a formality

Investors read use of funds to check whether the raise size matches the plan and whether it buys enough runway to hit the next milestone. A raise that funds fourteen months when the milestone needs twenty-four signals the founder has not thought it through.

Who this is for

  • Founders raising pre-seed, seed or Series A
  • Companies preparing for a demo day or investor committee
  • Teams whose deck was returned with questions about the numbers
  • Anyone building a data room

Frequently asked questions

What financial slides should a pitch deck have?
Typically four: the revenue build, unit economics, burn and runway, and use of funds. Each should tie back to a single model rather than being assembled independently.
How far out should startup projections go?
Three to five years, monthly for the first eighteen to twenty-four months. Investors read the near-term monthly detail closely and treat the later years as directional.
What do investors check first?
Whether the revenue line is derived or asserted, and whether the runway calculation is honest. Those two answer whether the founder understands their own business.
